Sealants & Adhesives

Silicone Sealants

A sealant is an elastomeric material that allows for 15% to 50% movement. Sealant is used to fill gaps, to keep water and air at bay, to allow for expansion and contraction of building materials, and to enhance aesthetics. Silicone and polyurethane are two popular types of sealant. Despite their common purpose, there are a few major differences between them.

Application

  • The hairline cracks, are widened, using a sharp tool (e.g. a chisel) or a cutting wheel, to at least 3to 5 mm.
  • Dust and other loose particles should be removed from the crack with a brush or by an Air Blower.
  • The Crack Filler is cut at an angle and in a way that it cannot penetrate but lies on the edges of the widened crack.
  • The sealant is applied by guiding the tube at an angle of 450 along the crack.
  • The sealant should be smoothed out with a smooth trowel, while it is still fresh
